Learn to Declutter with Declutter Deck®

With the help of our professional organizing team, and feedback from our clients, we have created Declutter Deck® prompt cards. These unique, focused, easy-to-use decluttering and organizing cards, called Declutter Deck®, help clients learn to declutter and organize, too. These decks, done regularly, transform your life from chaos and clutter to organized and carefree.

Guiding you by home area and category, Declutter Decks® are 52 self-paced prompt cards that teach you how and what to organize and declutter. The declutter portion of our cards encourage you to reduce what you own by at least twenty percent. This is a good rule of thumb in decluttering that will make the sheer volume you own easier to organize. The reason is that it can be difficult to organize until you have actually decluttered a significant portion of what you own. The remaining organization cards help you organize and put away the rest.

Prompts and projects take less than one hour at a time to complete.

According to a study by Princeton University, researchers discovered that our environment can positively or negatively impact our ability to complete tasks as well as our overall mental health. If the physical space around us feels scattered, it’s likely our mental space will feel the same. A study by the University of Connecticut found that by removing or controlling clutter, we can directly reduce the stress that stems from the mess which can help us to feel happier, less anxious, and more confident in ourselves.

People often ask us which areas in a home we most enjoy organizing. The KonMari Method® encourages tidying by category, not by location, beginning with clothes, then moving on to books, papers, komono (miscellaneous items), and then, sentimental items. We tend to say clothing because we start our days by getting dressed. If you feel good about your closet, then the rest of your morning and day flow from that frame of mind.
The benefit of organizing a child’s toys is tremendous. Little hands need to be able to grab toys and books. They also need to know how to return playthings to their homes when the child is finished. This teaches several lessons. For example, where to anticipate finding a loved toy the next time the child wants it. And there is less chaos looking for favorites. The other lesson it teaches is grouping of like items, helping make sense of the books and toys a child owns. It is easy for the child to see what is new, and a parent can see what has been outgrown or may be too advanced for the child’s age.
An organized office makes all the difference in the world, whether working from home or having a home office that serves the needs of the family. When space is clear, it helps to keep cortisol levels down. This reduces stress and allows you to think more clearly. Sitting down to a clean desk with adequate and appropriate filing systems and lighting makes work more efficient and professional. No more hunting for pieces of paper, bills, and schoolwork that need to be returned the following day. An organized workspace increases productivity and professionalism.

Using this system and keeping only the most important items from a child’s life helps reduce clutter and saves life’s most cherished memories. Storing sentimental items in this type of filing system allows for expansion as the child grows or as the family takes on new members. You can then display these beautiful linen filing boxes on a shelf for easy access. A must have item!
